Programs

An important part of the mission of African American Studies is to serve as a resource to VCU faculty, staff, students and the Richmond community. In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty members direct a number of study abroad programs, participate in community speaking engagements, and lead community-‐based services and research internships for students. Faculty also have helped correctional institutions develop black cultural and historical programs, provided local schools with instruction and guidance, served as consultants to public agencies, offered expert testimony to commissions, and donated countless hours to public teaching activities.
